About Us

History

SHREITC, a coalition formed in 2005 by a group of nonprofit and local government employees that felt that South Hampton Roads area of Virginia could benefit from an alliance to support the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) program and provide an opportunity to return tax dollars back to low-income families and individuals in the region.

 Mission

To improve the financial condition of families that live at or near the poverty level, by promoting the EITC; educating eligible persons and families; providing free tax preparation services and linking eligible individuals and families to cost-free financial education programs that help them develop practical skills to manage their money and build their financial assets.

To expand the efforts of the Coalition, SHREITC Supports the National Disability Institute mission in the delivery of the free tax preparation and filing assistance along with other asset building strategies for low and moderate income persons with disabilities and to give support to families and caregivers of persons with disabilities.
